Getting Started with GSM Grading

Card grading is an objective assessment of a trading card's condition by professional experts. We evaluate four key pillars: centering, corners, edges, and surface quality.

Each card receives a numerical grade from 1-10, with 10 representing a "Gem Mint" card in perfect condition. This grade provides buyers and sellers with a standardized, trusted assessment of condition.

Graded cards are encapsulated in protective holders (slabs) with tamper-evident security features, preserving their condition and authenticity for years to come.

Centering: The balance of borders around the card. Perfect centering has equal borders on all sides.

Corners: Examined for wear, rounding, or damage. Sharp, pointed corners indicate better condition.

Edges: Checked for chipping, whitening, or roughness. Clean, smooth edges are ideal.

Surface: Inspected for scratches, print defects, staining, or other imperfections.

Sleeve each card in a penny sleeve, then place in a semi-rigid card saver or top loader.

Never use tape directly on cards or holders. Use painter's tape on outer packaging only.

Secure cards in a small box with bubble wrap to prevent movement during shipping.
